He employs "paradigm" -way too much. I suppose it sounds professional and erudite (??)
I like the way Dr. Weiss breaks down the twelve steps. I also liked how he explains the different causes of addiction. Great read for those looking to recover from sexual addiction!
While I understand the need of the consumer to review all the description details before buying, it is still dishonest to use a picture of a different edition as your main selling point. On top of that the main description should have a disclaimer on this due to there being a new version available. It just says a lot that one would sell on these principles.
A great compassionate book about how Christians, including pastors, can recover from sexual additions. This book explores the deep emotional wounds and causes of addictions and points out the path to recovery. There is hope.
Don't stop at the family therapist in treating a medical condition. Watch the HBO special "Addiction" to learn the correct way to treat addiction. Get a physician, psychiatrist, CBT therapist, EMDR therapist, Motivational Interview therapist, science and evidence based support group and food-exercise wellness coach and treat the underlying conditions of addiction such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD and bipolar in conjunction with lifestyle. Get stats on the success rate of treatment programs and their methods. There's a lot of snake oil that people would like to sell you. Do it not because 'Jesus said so,' but do it because you're worth it, you have potential to do good in this world, your health depends on it and this is the only brain you'll ever get.
I give the book 2 stars because I liked the start, with the description of the different kinds of addicts and how brain chemistry is affected. However, that should be a magazine article worth 3 or 4 USD.
The book goes on telling you to embrace Christian faith (at least two times in every page), and spends dozens of pages analyzing EACH WORD of the AA 12 Steps. Seriously, he even analyzes the "a" in "a God".
If you are a hardcore atheist like me, he practically gives no hope.
If you happen to be a Christian, still, better download the AA Big Book and buy another book that deals with the pyschological and chemical issues of addictions.
Read everything you can by Dr. Weiss!
